Fishing Report
Updated September 2010
____
Hanmer Springs Area
The Waiau river below the confluence with the Hope river can be fished all year round.
The level of water has been very unconsistant and as per September 11th, 2009 the water is runing clear , higher than normal, and there is some good fihing to do below the Hope confluence.
Enjoy the next coming week end as weather is meant to improve and the last warmer days we had are without any doubt beneficial to the fish
It will take another three to four day to see any improvement
Reefton Area
Good fishing on the Grey river downstrean of the Clarke river confluence .The river is very wide and fish are in number.
If you strike one of these magic day as you can get them that time of the year on the "coast"you will be amazed at seeing fish feeding on the top.
The Inangahua River (lower) from perseverance bridge to the Buller River confluence offers good winter fishing.
As per September 08th , 2009 the river was runing high but fishable and was just discolored because of recent rain
Murchison Area
The Maruia River dowstream of the falls the falls offer good winter fishing.
Snow melt has now no more impact on the river and this would be my favourite destination for the next week or so.
Karamea Area
The Karamea river downstream of cableway at mouth of Lower Gorge has been fishing well. This river is not affected by snow melt and walking cautiously along the banks on a sunny day is often rewarding.Catch and release should be the only way to fish that magic river at this time of the year.
Fish up to 6lbs have been caught in recent weeks .They are sea run trout coming up after the whitebait and feed frantically.
Use imitation on smelt is revarding
Greymouth Area
Fish the Arnold .The level of water can be a problem to access the banks.
It is a very rewarding river and winter fishing is always great for the brave angler not afraid of the cold weather.
Use small nymphs and if you are lucky enough to be on the river at that time of the day it is the only river that will offer you a magnificient hatch.
We will take you to an exceptional adventure of fly fishing from Hanmer Springs to the West Coast of New Zealand's South island.Off the beaten track to catch big brown trout
